Sprachvogel — Privacy Policy
Last updated: 1 June 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Sprachvogel ("we", "us", the "app") collects, uses, and protects your personal data when you use the app and website. We aim to collect as little as possible and to keep what we do collect secure.
1. Who we are (Data Controller)
Sprachvogel is operated by Hassan Hassanzadeh Aliabadi, based in Germany. For any privacy question or request, contact: privacy@sprachvogel.com.
2. What data we collect
We only collect what's needed to run a personal learning account:
- Account data: your email address, and a display name you choose.
- Learning data: your study progress — flashcard review history and spaced-repetition state, lesson completion and scores, your daily streak, your CEFR level and daily goal.
- Technical data: a secure authentication session (login token). We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not sell your data.
We do not knowingly collect any data we don't list here. The German vocabulary and lesson content itself is the same for everyone and is not personal data.
3. Why we use it, and our legal basis (GDPR)
- To create and secure your account and let you sign in — legal basis: performance of a contract (our terms with you).
- To save your learning progress and sync it across your devices — legal basis: performance of a contract.
- To keep the service working and secure — legal basis: our legitimate interest in providing a reliable, safe app.
We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
4. Where your data is stored, and who processes it
Your account and learning data are stored using Supabase, our hosting and database provider, on servers located in Frankfurt, Germany (EU). Supabase acts as our data processor. Access to your rows is restricted to your own account through database row-level security.
If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and email address with us to create your account. We do not receive your Google password or any other Google data.
If we later add AI-powered features (for example a conversation or writing-feedback tutor), text you submit for those features may be processed by an AI provider (Google Gemini). We will update this policy and tell you before any such feature is switched on.
We do not transfer your personal data outside the EU except as needed to provide the service through the processors named above.
5. How long we keep it
We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account (see Section 7), your account and learning data are permanently deleted. We may keep minimal records where the law requires it.
6. Cookies and local storage
The app stores a login session and a small cache of your profile on your device so it works quickly and offline. This is necessary for the app to function — we do not use advertising or analytics cookies.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR (and similar laws), you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data (you can edit your display name, level, and goal in the app).
- Delete your account and data — available in the app under Profile → Delete account, or by emailing us.
- Export / portability — request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent and object to processing where applicable.
- Complain to your local data-protection supervisory authority.
To exercise any right, use the in-app controls or email privacy@sprachvogel.com. We will respond within one month.
8. Children
Sprachvogel is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age. If you believe a child has given us data, contact us and we will delete it.
9. Security
We use industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS), authenticated access, and per-user database row-level security so users can only see their own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We will post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date. Significant changes affecting your data will be communicated in the app.
